Becky Spencer joined the club ahead of the 2016 season following three years with Birmingham City Ladies. In that time she helped the Midlands club finish second in the FA Women’s Super League and reach the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final.
After making her Chelsea debut in a straightforward 6-0 win over Aston Villa in the Women’s FA Cup in April 2016, Spencer’s next action came as a late substitute at Liverpool after Hedvig Lindahl went off with a head injury.
She came into the side again when the Swede headed to Rio for the 2016 Olympics and held onto the No.1 jersey for the five matches, leading up to the Champions League tie with Wolfsburg.
However, injury prevented her from appearing in the Spring Series campaign at the start of 2017.
A regular for various England development teams, Spencer began her career with Arsenal Ladies before testing herself in Europe for French side ASJ Soyaux.
After one year in France, she returned to England for the first of two spells with Birmingham, sandwiched either side of a return to Arsenal.
In her second spell in the Midlands, Spencer established herself as a reliable No.1 playing a key role in their success domestically and in Europe.
