We round up the recent loan action,
including Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup matches, and look
at the coming seven days.
Kurt Zouma came agonisingly close to giving Stoke all three points against Leicester, the Frenchman's header forcing a fine save from Kasper Schmeichel in the last minute of added time. That was in an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Potteries.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who like Abraham was fresh from his senior England call-up, was in the Crystal Palace side which lost 1-0 at Wembley against Spurs.
In a tough week for Hull, Fikayo Tomori played in back-to-back defeats, with fellow defender Michael Hector being sent off in a 3-1 loss to Middlesbrough on Tuesday. The Jamaican international was replaced by Ola Aina for a 4-1 reverse at Sheffield United on Saturday. Missing in goal for the Sheffield side was Jamal Blackman. He suffered an unfortunate incident on Tuesday which cost the only goal of the game away at QPR and also resulted in an injury for the young goalkeeper. Sheffield United finish the week second in the Championship table.
Also in the Championship, Jeremie Boga came off the bench in Birmingham's 2-0 defeat at Barnsley, with Ike Ugbo an unused substitute for the Tykes, having played over an hour of their 4-2 win against Burton Albion in midweek.
Jordan Houghton found the net in a crazy 90 minutes of FA Cup football as Doncaster Rovers came from behind at Ebbsfleet United in the first round. Having gone two goals down, Doncaster levelled things by the break with two goals in first-half injury time. The away side then went ahead, Houghton finding the net to extend their lead, before an action-packed last 10 minutes in which Ebbsfleet went down to 10 men and Doncaster scored twice more to make the final score 6-2.
Bradley Collins got his first taste of FA Cup action, helping Forest Green Rovers beat Macclesfield 1-0 in the first round, making one especially important save in the second half to deny Daniel Whitehead a certain goal from close range.
Also in the FA Cup, Nathan Baxter and Woking conceded inside one minute against League One Bury but fought back to earn a replay up north thanks to a 1-1 draw. In non-league action, Jared Thompson was in goal for Chippenham’s 1-0 defeat at Hampton and Richmond.
In the midweek European fixtures, Mario Pasalic suffered a 2-1 defeat with Spartak Moscow at Sevilla in the Champions League. Fankaty Dabo, Matt Miazga and Mason Mount were in Europa League action with Vitesse Arnhem on Thursday, but lost 2-0 at home to Zulte Waregem. Danilo Pantic came off the bench in Partizan Belgrade's 2-0 home win over Skenderbeu.
In this weekend’s league action, Vitesse drew 0-0 at home to Zwolle with Matt Miazga and Fankaty Dabo in their defence. Mason Mount came on during the first half. There was a contrasting goal when PSV hosted Twente. That ended 4-3 to table-topping home team with Marco van Ginkel scoring their second from the penalty spot.
In Turkey there was heartbreak for Kenneth Omeruo, as 10-man Kasimpasa held on to a 2-0 lead until the 89th minute, but two late goals from Bursaspor ensured the game ended in a draw.
Victorien Angban played in Waasland Beveren’s 2-0 home win over Royal Excel Mouscron in Belgium. They are up to fifth.
Chelsea Ladies do have games, including a big Champions League first leg against Rosengard at Kingsmeadow on Wednesday. Kick-off is 7.05pm and the match is live on Chelsea TV and our YouTube channel.
Then on Sunday, there is a WSL away game against Reading at 12.35pm. That is live on the BBC.
